Tragic Auto Crash Involving PFAN President Tijani Babangida and Brother Ibrahim
The President of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), Tijani Babangida, was involved in a tragic auto crash today on the Kaduna-Zaria Road, resulting in the death of his younger brother, Ibrahim Babangida.
Babangida, a gold medalist from the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, was driving when the accident occurred, colliding with a moving trailer. The PFAN President was injured in the crash, while Ibrahim lost his life on the spot.
Emmanuel Babayaro, the General Secretary of PFAN, confirmed the incident in a statement, urging prayers for Tijani Babangida and his family. The accident occurred while they were en route to Zaria from Kaduna.
Ibrahim Babangida, aged 47, was a retired footballer who was part of the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning Golden Eagles squad in Japan. He had played for local teams like Bank of The North, Stationery Stores, and Katsina United before joining Dutch side Volendam in 1997.
Shehu Abdullahi, the Kaduna State Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), also confirmed the tragic accident, detailing that Tijani Babangida and others in the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment at Shika Hospital in Zaria.
