Tragic Bull Riding Accident Claims Life of Young Rider

WHARTON, Texas – A promising young bull rider from Wyoming, Dylan Grant, has died following a serious injury sustained during the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event on April 4, 2025.

Grant, 21, was riding a bull in the second round of the competition when he was bucked off, resulting in critical injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded promptly, stabilizing him at the scene before he was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.

According to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), Grant hailing from Laramie, Wyoming, had made significant strides in his bull riding career, amassing $3,760 in earnings during the current season, with a total of $15,710 in his career earnings.

“Grant first obtained his PRCA permit on May 1, 2018, and later purchased his PRCA card on Feb. 14, 2024,” the PRCA noted in a statement. “He has competed in multiple PRORODEO and Xtreme Bulls events throughout his career.”

In 2021, while also representing the University of Wyoming rodeo team, Grant achieved significant recognition by winning the bull riding title at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo with an impressive 169.5 points on two rides. He also excelled in Round 3 of the MSCFR in Loveland, Colorado, that same year, scoring 86.5 points on The Cervi Brothers’ Classic Equine Bad Memory.

The rodeo community is mourning the loss of Grant, who was known for his talent and dedication to the sport.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks involved in bull riding, a sport that attracts hundreds of competitors and fans nationwide.
