Tragic Death of Young Goalkeeper Shakes Cantabria Community
COLINDRES, Spain — Raúl Ramírez, a 19-year-old goalkeeper from Club Deportivo Colindres, tragically passed away on Monday after suffering a serious head injury during a match on Saturday. Ramírez collided with an opposing player from Revilla de Camargo, and was subsequently hospitalized at Valdecilla Hospital in Santander.
The incident caused a cardiac arrest on the field and another during transportation to the hospital, leading to his untimely death. Sources close to the Cantabrian club confirmed the news.
María José Sáenz de Buruaga, the President of Cantabria, expressed her condolences and shared the community’s sorrow over the loss. “A boy full of life, dreams, and future. All my love and that of Cantabria goes to his family, friends, and the entire Cantabrian football family,” she wrote on social media.
Club Deportivo Colindres conveyed their sympathies to Ramírez’s family and friends, emphasizing their support during this difficult time. They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of affection received since the incident, stating, “Raúl has left doing what he loved most and will remain in our hearts and those of everyone who knew him.”
The Cantabrian Football Federation announced that three days of mourning would be observed, and a minute of silence would be held in memory of Raúl during all matches of the upcoming week. “The loss of such a young talent is a tragedy for us all,” the federation stated.
