Tragic Discovery in Keswick Park: Two Found Dead, Police Investigate
In a tragic incident in Keswick, Ontario, two individuals were found dead in a local park following reports of gunfire early Wednesday morning. York Regional Police officers responded to calls around 7:28 a.m. about gunshots heard in the vicinity of Bayview Park, located near Bayview and Lowndes Avenues.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two adults with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Due to ongoing notifications to their next of kin, authorities have refrained from disclosing detailed information about the victims.
Constable Kevin Nebrija, representing the York Regional Police, described the situation as an “isolated” incident, assuring the community that there is no further threat to public safety. Investigations are currently underway as police work to identify any suspects involved.
“Our homicide unit is involved,” stated Constable Nebrija. “We are appealing to community members for any dashcam or security footage that might assist investigators.” He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in piecing together the events of the morning.
The shooting has left Keswick residents shaken. Olivia Poste, a local resident, described her shock upon awakening to find a heavy presence of police and paramedics in her normally peaceful neighborhood. “I’ve lived here my whole life,” she said, “there’s never been anything like this. It’s very scary because it’s so close to home.”
Another resident, Tiina, who resides about 30 to 40 feet from the park, recounted hearing multiple rounds of gunfire. “I heard a bunch of gunshots, probably around a dozen,” she explained. “There were a few shots, then a pause, then a few more shots.” Like many, she expressed feelings of paranoia and unease following the incident.
Meanwhile, York Regional Police have placed four nearby schools in a hold-and-secure status as a precautionary measure. They confirmed that no incidents directly involved the schools, ensuring students’ safety as police continue their investigation.
Residents like Ben Borup, who has lived close to the park for six years, shared their sense of unease, noting how events “hit a little too close to home.” Borup, who had intended to walk his dogs, was advised by police to return home, highlighting the gravity of the unfolding situation.
