Tragic Incident at Berowra Railway Station: Two People Killed by Freight Train in Sydney’s North
In a tragic incident at Berowra Railway Station in Sydney‘s north, two individuals lost their lives after being struck by a freight train. The incident occurred around midnight on Friday, claiming the lives of Aroulen Chinnien, a man in his 20s, and a woman in her 30s, who is yet to be formally identified.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Chinnien and the woman were acquainted and had an argument prior to the accident. It is believed that during their dispute, Chinnien threw an object belonging to the woman onto the tracks. In an attempt to retrieve it, she jumped down from the platform. Seeing the oncoming train, Chinnien heroically leaped onto the tracks to save her.
Emergency services, including NSW Ambulance paramedics, arrived at the scene promptly to provide assistance. However, despite their efforts, both individuals succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.
As news of the incident spread, the scene near the Pacific Highway was cordoned off by the police. Shaun Page, who arrived at the Berowra station car park for work a few hours after the tragedy, expressed his shock at the unfortunate event. He described the presence of multiple police vehicles and a fire engine, remarking that such incidents were unexpected and deeply saddening.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with police trying to piece together the events leading up to the tragic accident. All rail services passing through Berowra Station have since resumed normal operations.
