A man has tragically lost his life after being attacked by his own XL Bully dog at his residence in Lancashire. The incident occurred late on Tuesday at Ashley Court in Accrington, where the victim, identified as 53-year-old David Daintree, was found deceased shortly before 9:30 PM BST.

Emergency services, including the ambulance service, alerted the police following reports of an attack inside Mr. Daintree’s home. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials confirmed the man’s death and assessed the situation with the dog, which was deemed to continue posing a significant threat to public safety.

In response to the imminent danger, police officers made the difficult decision to discharge a firearm, resulting in the destruction of the XL Bully. Superintendent Marie Jackson stated that specialized officers are offering support to Mr. Daintree’s family during this distressing time.

The incident has raised concerns as ownership of XL Bully dogs had been banned since December unless an exemption certificate was obtained. Despite ongoing debates regarding this breed, the recent tragedy has reignited discussions about public safety and responsible dog ownership.

Superintendent Jackson expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones and urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Local police plan to increase visibility in the area to address any public concerns.
