Tragic Loss: Stacy Wakefield, Wife of Late MLB Star Tim Wakefield, Passes Away Months After His Death
Stacy Wakefield, the widow of the renowned Major League Baseball player Tim Wakefield, has tragically passed away, as confirmed by the Boston Red Sox. This heartbreaking event comes merely five months after the beloved pitcher’s death in October 2023.
The Red Sox relayed the news of Stacy’s passing in an official statement released on Wednesday on behalf of the Wakefield family.
“It is with deep sadness that we share that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt, Stacy, passed away today at her home in Massachusetts,” the Wakefield family expressed in a statement. “She was surrounded by her family, dear friends, as well as her wonderful caretakers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially in the wake of losing Tim just under five months ago. Our hearts are beyond broken.”
The family continued, “We will remember Stacy as a strong, loving, thoughtful, and kind person, known for her down-to-earth demeanor. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had her in our lives and find solace in the thought that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life.”
Both Stacy and Tim Wakefield were diagnosed with different forms of cancer, as disclosed by former MLB pitcher Schilling last September. Schilling, a teammate of Tim’s on the Red Sox, shared that Tim was facing an aggressive brain cancer diagnosis, while Stacy was battling pancreatic cancer.
After Schilling’s unauthorized public revelation of the couple’s health challenges, the Red Sox issued a statement requesting privacy on behalf of the Wakefields. The team acknowledged the public disclosures and emphasized the couple’s intention to maintain privacy amidst their treatment and cancer journey.
Following Tim’s passing, Major League Baseball mourned the loss, highlighting his exceptional career achievements as a 19-year veteran, two-time World Series champion, 2009 AL All-Star, and recipient of the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award.
In their recent statement released through the Red Sox, the Wakefield family expressed gratitude towards Stacy’s caregivers and sought privacy during this difficult period. They extended their thanks to the healthcare providers who supported Stacy throughout her diagnosis and treatment.
The family concluded with a request for privacy as they grieve this profound loss and attempt to navigate the emotional challenges that accompany such tragedies. Stacy and Tim Wakefield were married in 2002 and had two children together, Trevor and Brianna, who are now left to carry on their parents’ legacy.
