Tragic Plane Crash Claims Five Lives in West Nashville
Five people lost their lives in a devastating plane crash that occurred along Interstate 40 in West Nashville on Monday night, as confirmed by officials.
Don Aaron, a spokesperson for Metro Nashville Police, stated that the small aircraft reported engine failure just before it went down at mile marker 202 on I-40 around 7:45 p.m. Emergency responders from the Nashville Fire Department swiftly arrived at the scene.
The single-engine plane, identified as a Piper PA-32RT-300T with tail number C-FBWH, departed from Mount Sterling, Kentucky, and was destined for John C. Tune Airport in Nashville, according to Nashville International Airport spokeswoman Stacey Nickens.
Witnesses reported that the plane crashed in a grassy median behind the Costco store on Charlotte Pike after experiencing a catastrophic failure, causing it to implode upon impact, as described by Kendra Loney from the Nashville Fire Department.
Metro Police shared the grim news, confirming that all five individuals onboard the aircraft had tragically lost their lives. The FAA and NTSB are set to conduct investigations following the incident.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell expressed condolences for the victims and their families in a statement issued after the crash on Monday night. The eastbound lanes of I-40 were temporarily closed, causing delays throughout the night.
