Tragic Small Plane Crash Claims Two Lives in Tofino, B.C.

Tragedy struck at Long Beach Airport in Tofino, British Columbia, as a small plane crash claimed the lives of two individuals and left a third severely injured on Thursday. The incident, which occurred around 1 p.m., prompted a response from the Tofino RCMP.

According to preliminary information provided by the authorities, the crash involved a small 6-seat aircraft that potentially experienced an engine fire during takeoff. The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District identified the flight as a ‘non-scheduled private aircraft.’

One person was rescued from the aircraft and rushed to the hospital for treatment, while sadly, two passengers were pronounced dead at the crash site.

“Our thoughts are with the families impacted by this tragic event,” expressed Daniel Sailland, the Chief Administrative Officer overseeing airport operations in the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District. “Collaboration with the authorities is ongoing to investigate the cause of the crash and provide assistance to those affected.”

The Tofino RCMP, in conjunction with the Transportation Safety Board and BC Coroners Service, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the Tofino RCMP at 250-670-9612.
