Train Accident in Fremont Kills Two Adults and One Child

FREMONT, Ohio — A tragic train accident on Sunday evening resulted in the deaths of two adults and a child while leaving another child hospitalized, according to Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez.
The victims have been identified as Ram Masan, 50, O Ny Zar, 34, and 5-year-old Intisar Mi. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when the victims were reportedly on or near a bridge close to the Sandusky River.
Earlier Monday, the body of Intisar Mi was recovered from the river. She had been missing since the accident, as search crews scoured the area for hours.
<p“A very unfortunate tragedy has hit our community,” Sanchez said during a news conference. “It’s heartbreaking.”
Officials noted that Masan and Zar were walking with two young children when they were struck by the train. A 14-month-old child also suffered critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a Toledo hospital.
The family had been visiting the area from Fort Wayne, Indiana, on a fishing trip. Sanchez mentioned that the Sandusky River draws many visitors, particularly during the white bass fishing season.
Rescue efforts involved multiple agencies, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, local police and fire departments, and dive teams, who utilized boats and drones to search the river.
The train, operated by Norfolk Southern, resumed service later that evening. In a statement, the company expressed its condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and are working closely with local authorities on their investigation.”
Authorities have closed Miles Newton Bridge and are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
<p“According to the information we have now, the bridge is clearly marked for no trespassing," Sanchez added, stressing the dangers of being near train tracks.
State and federal officials have extended support to Fremont as the community grapples with this significant loss.
