NJ Transit Faces Delays and Service Adjustments: Here’s What You Need to Know
NJ Transit is experiencing significant disruptions and service adjustments that are impacting commuters, particularly as the workweek begins on Monday, December 2, 2024. One of the major issues is the suspension of rail service on the North Jersey Coast Line and Northeast Corridor due to overhead wire damage. This has resulted in suspensions and delays in both directions, affecting travel into and out of Penn Station in New York City.
In addition to the suspensions, NJ Transit riders are also facing delays due to ongoing maintenance work. For instance, switch replacement work at Hoboken Terminal has disrupted direct service between Hoboken and Meadowlands Station. On Sunday, December 1, customers traveling to the Jets vs. Seahawks football game at MetLife Stadium had to change trains at Secaucus Junction to complete their trip.
For the Jets vs. Seahawks game, NJ Transit offered rail service between Hoboken/Secaucus Junction and MetLife Stadium, but with specific shuttle train arrangements. Service to Meadowlands Station from Secaucus began at 9:41 AM, and the final train from Secaucus to Meadowlands Station departed at 2:15 PM. The last train from MetLife Stadium did not depart Meadowlands Station before 6:10 PM.
Customers are advised to plan ahead, check the latest rail schedules, and allow for additional time to make their train connections. NJ Transit recommends purchasing round-trip tickets from the originating station to avoid delays and surcharges. Commuters can stay updated through the TRANSIT Mobile App, My Transit Alerts, and social media channels.
These service disruptions and adjustments highlight the ongoing challenges faced by NJ Transit in maintaining smooth and reliable service for its commuters.
