TreeHouse Foods Recalls Waffles Due to Listeria Risk
TreeHouse Foods, a prominent manufacturer, has announced the recall of its frozen waffle products over concerns of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected waffles were distributed across the United States and Canada under various private label brands, prompting a widespread recall effort.
Consumers and retailers can identify the suspect products through the Universal Product Code (UPC) located on the back of the carton, along with the Lot Code and Best By Date printed on the end of the carton. TreeHouse Foods has advised those who have purchased the waffles to either dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase for a refund or credit. Photos of the specific products involved in the recall are available to aid in identification.
To date, there have been no confirmed illnesses associated with the consumption of these recalled waffles. “This issue was identified through routine testing at our manufacturing facility,” a statement from the company indicated. For any health concerns possibly related to the consumption of the product, individuals are urged to contact a healthcare provider.
The recall is being conducted with full awareness of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Consumers with inquiries about the recall are encouraged to contact TreeHouse Foods at 800-596-2903, available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central Standard Time (CST).
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism capable of causing severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems. In otherwise healthy individuals, Listeria infection may lead to short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are at particular risk, as the infection can result in miscarriages and stillbirths.
