Trick-or-Treaters Brace for Chilly and Rainy Halloween in Central New York
SYRACUSE, New York — Central New York weather is expected to take a turn for the worse just in time for Halloween. Meteorologist Peter Hall reports that rain is likely to start early Thursday morning, leading to a wet Halloween night.
This follows a pleasant Wednesday with sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. However, a shift in the weather pattern will bring cooler temperatures, with highs only reaching the 40s on Thursday. By Thursday night, temperatures may drop into the low 50s.
As Halloween approaches, trick-or-treaters should prepare for windy and raw weather conditions. Wind gusts ranging from 15 to 25 mph are predicted, potentially creating wind chills that feel like the lower to middle 30s. Rainfall amounts are still being assessed, but many areas including the Route 31 corridor are expected to see showers.
Despite the dreary forecast, the incoming rain is viewed as beneficial due to the ongoing moderate to severe drought in the area. This rain will help replenish well water supplies and mitigate the drought conditions experienced throughout much of the year.
Halloween in Central New York will starkly contrast last year’s record warm weather when temperatures soared to 81 degrees. Historical records show that snow has been reported on several Halloweens in the past, with the coldest recorded temperature being 26 degrees in 1930.
Residents are advised to dress warmly and consider waterproof materials for costumes. As Halloween night approaches, the potential for lingering rain and cooler temperatures will necessitate adjustments in how children prepare for their night out.
For the most accurate forecasts and updates, residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local weather broadcasts.
