Tristan Thompson Warned by Judge for Missing Court Hearing

Los Angeles, California — Tristan Thompson was issued a stern warning by a Los Angeles judge after failing to appear at a scheduled court hearing. The hearing took place on Tuesday, April 22, in Los Angeles Superior Court, concerning the guardianship of his disabled brother, Amari Thompson, 18.
The judge noted that both Tristan, 34, and his attorney, Aaron Hegji, were properly informed of the court’s order compelling their appearance. Court documents revealed that Tristan failed to comply with the order and did not file the necessary accounting for the case.
A new hearing has been scheduled for June 12, and the judge issued a citation to Tristan, warning that any further failure to comply or appear may lead to sanctions.
In February 2024, Tristan was appointed as Amari’s guardian following the unexpected death of their mother, Andrea Marie Brooks, in January 2023. The petition revealed that Amari suffers from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, requiring constant care.
Tristan’s filing contended that their father, Trevor Douglas Thompson, has been absent for years and has not fulfilled his child support obligations since 2014. “He has effectively abandoned [Amari]; he has not been in contact with Amari or Andrea Marie Brooks since July 2014,” Tristan stated.
Tristan remarked, “My only contact with Trevor Thompson in the past nine years was at my mother’s funeral. I have no knowledge of his current or recent whereabouts.” Notably, Trevor did not oppose Tristan’s guardianship request during the court proceedings.
During the hearing, Tristan also explained that Amari is a Canadian citizen. Despite recent care being provided in Los Angeles, he emphasized the need for potential treatments in Canada due to their specialized nature.
Tristan’s lawyer indicated that the process for applying for American citizenship is slow. “Amari will require care for the duration of his life. [Tristan] would like to begin this process as soon as possible for Amari to qualify for social services benefits as an American citizen,” the lawyer said.
Since early 2024, Tristan has been Amari’s guardian. He celebrated Amari’s 18th birthday in July 2024 by sharing heartfelt posts on social media, expressing his love and gratitude for his brother.
