Tropical Storm Mario Brings Rain and Flood Watch to Arizona
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Remnants of Tropical Storm Mario have moved into Arizona, bringing early morning rain and a chance of thunderstorms as the week wraps up. On Thursday morning, some areas in the Valley recorded rainfall: Tempe received 0.30 inches, while Mesa and Glendale reported 0.20 inches. Peoria and Scottsdale also experienced measurable rain.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch remains in effect for southwestern Arizona through Friday at 2 a.m. This advisory includes Yuma, Blythe, and Parker. The watch is also in place for southeast California, particularly where heavy rainfall is predicted in western Arizona.
Updated weather models indicate a break in rainfall during the early afternoon hours, followed by another round of showers and possible storms into the evening and overnight. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist into Friday, especially over higher terrain areas.
As for temperatures, the forecast shows partly to mostly cloudy skies in the morning, with some sunshine expected in the evening. A slightly humid feel is anticipated, with dew points in the 60s. Temperatures from today through Sunday are expected to remain in the upper 90s, reaching as high as 100 degrees. By the beginning of the week, temperatures could climb to 105 degrees by Tuesday.
In related weather news, Tropical Depression Seven formed in the central Atlantic and is predicted to become Gabrielle either today or tonight as it moves northwest. While it doesn’t pose a threat to the mainland U.S., it may pass close to Bermuda, potentially causing impacts next week. Meteorologists are also monitoring a tropical wave near Africa that could slowly develop.
