Thousands of TSB customers have reported issues accessing their accounts online and via the banking app on Thursday morning. Users expressed frustration as they encountered messages indicating they had ‘no accounts’, prompting widespread concern among account holders.

The outage has been tracked by DowvDetector, a site monitoring platform, which confirmed that numerous individuals were experiencing difficulties with TSB’s mobile and online banking services. Various customers took to social media to express their frustrations.

One customer remarked, “I opened my app and it said I had no accounts.” Similarly, Jim Hoy voiced his discontent on X, questioning, “Why are none of my accounts showing up? Why does your app never work, and why are you so terrible? Sort yourself out, please!”

Ashleigh Cunningham added, “I can’t access my accounts through mobile or internet banking, I’ve been trying since 7 am, not the stress I need.” Another user, Matty, noted, “TSB, what is going on with your online banking? It’s telling me I have no account to view.” Jeff Holt expressed his disappointment, saying, “TSB, on my payday of all days when I need to pay all my bills, I can’t. Because you’ve decided to mess about with the app and I can’t approve payments.”

This incident follows a two-week-old apology from TSB, where a systems error left many customers without benefit and salary payments for several hours at the end of September. TSB stated that the problem had been resolved by 2 pm on that occasion.

Technical issues have been a recurring problem for UK banks in recent weeks. Lloyds Bank and Virgin Money also encountered glitches, complicating account access for their customers. TSB is no stranger to such incidents, having faced a significant IT meltdown in 2018 that locked nearly two million people out of their accounts due to a systems upgrade malfunction. The following year saw further challenges, with TSB having to compensate customers who missed out on wage payments.

Moreover, in June, widespread technology outages affected digital services at several UK banks, disrupting the “faster payment system” used for quick transactions between banks. A global IT outage in July, linked to a faulty cybersecurity software update, further compounded these issues, impacting banks worldwide.
