NEW ORLEANS, LA – Tulane University’s redshirt senior quarterback Jake Retzlaff was honored as the American Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, following a standout performance in a 34-27 victory over Duke.

Retzlaff showcased his skills by accumulating 356 yards of total offense and scoring four rushing touchdowns, tying the program’s record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. He rushed for a game-high 111 yards on 17 carries and completed 15 of 23 passes for 245 yards.

This is the first time a Tulane player has received this recognition since Michael Pratt did so in the 2023 season. Retzlaff’s selection is part of a strong season for Tulane football, which has had four players honored by the league this year.

The Green Wave football team started the 2025 season with a perfect 3-0 record, including notable wins against two Power 4 teams—an achievement not seen since 1988. Tulane is among only 39 FBS teams nationally that remain undefeated after the first three weeks of the season.

In 2024, Tulane participated in its third consecutive bowl game and secured a record of 35-10 over the last four seasons. Head Coach Jon Sumrall, with his 35-9 record, leads the team with back-to-back double-digit win streaks and has been named a finalist for prestigious coaching awards.

The team plans to face No. 13 Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, on Saturday, Sept. 20, where they aim to break a 13-game losing streak against the Rebels, dating back to 1988. The matchup will be televised on ESPN.
