Alperen Sengun Basketball Game

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Turkish guard Shane Larkin recently shared his thoughts on the rising star Alperen Sengun as the country prepares for the EuroBasket finals on Sunday against Germany. This marks Turkey’s first time reaching the finals since 2001, and the team aims to secure its first championship.

Larkin, who played four seasons in the NBA, commended Sengun’s skills and versatility. He said, “He’s just like this hybrid kind of player that doesn’t come around too often,” highlighting Sengun’s ability to handle the ball, shoot, and understand the game.

The 23-year-old Sengun has already made a name for himself, averaging 21.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game in the tournament. His outstanding performance has made him a key player for Turkey, which is currently undefeated at 8-0 in EuroBasket play.

Larkin compared Sengun to other NBA stars, noting that while players like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic are dominant, Sengun brings a unique flair to his game. “The confidence is just what sets him apart,” he said, recalling their early encounters in the Turkish League.

In the final group game, Sengun put up impressive stats, scoring 28 points and pulling down 13 rebounds while facing off against three-time NBA MVP Jokic. This performance helped Turkey clinch the top spot in Group A.

As Turkey heads into the finals, Larkin expressed excitement about Sengun’s potential to lead the team to victory. The game against Germany will feature former Rockets players Dennis Schroder and Daniel Theis, who will pose a challenge for Sengun.

The championship game takes place at 1:00 p.m. Central on Sunday, marking a significant moment for Turkish basketball. With high expectations met, the road ahead could mean gold for Sengun and his teammates.

“Everything for somebody to break through and become that guy is all there for him,” Larkin said, looking forward to Sengun’s future and the possibility of Turkey lifting the championship trophy.
