Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas Deaths

Las Vegas, NevadaClark County officials are investigating the deaths of two men who were attending the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) dance music festival over the weekend. Azmi Atassi, 33, from Flagstaff, Arizona, and Opkar Mahal, 39, from North Las Vegas, both died on Sunday, May 18, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

Mahal was reported dead at the festival, which took place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, while Atassi was found dead in his hotel room at the Hilton Grand Vacations Club. The causes of death are still pending further investigation.

A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) reported that one of the deceased individuals suffered a medical episode at the event and was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have confirmed that the second individual was believed to be in Las Vegas for the festival.

The three-day EDC event attracted around 500,000 attendees and has been held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway since 2011. The festival is known for its vibrant atmosphere and extensive lineup of electronic dance music artists.

As the investigation continues, the LVMPD has stated they will review the circumstances surrounding both deaths. No additional information has been released at this time.
