In a series of violent incidents on Monday morning, two people were killed and one was critically injured in what police believe may be connected stabbings across Manhattan.

The first stabbing occurred around 8:22 a.m. outside the Chelsea Club, a posh apartment building at 444 West 19th Street in Chelsea. A 39-year-old construction worker was fatally stabbed in the stomach following a verbal dispute with the suspect. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

About two hours later, at approximately 10:30 a.m., another stabbing took place near 500 East 30th Street in Kips Bay. A 67-year-old man was killed in this incident. The suspect allegedly provoked disputes with the victims, leading to the physical altercations.

A short time later, at around 10:55 a.m., a woman was stabbed at the corner of 42nd Street and 1st Avenue, just steps away from the United Nations headquarters. She is currently hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Police apprehended the suspect, a 51-year-old man who resides at the Bellevue Men’s Shelter on East 30th Street, near the corner of 46th Street and 1st Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. Two knives were found in his possession at the time of arrest.

Mayor Eric Adams addressed the incidents, expressing concern over the failures of the criminal justice and mental health systems. He praised a witness who followed the suspect and alerted an officer, leading to the quick apprehension of the suspect. Adams assured the public that no additional suspects are being sought at this time.
