Two Girls Killed in Cranford E-Bike Incident

Cranford, New Jersey – Two girls were struck and killed while riding e-bikes on Monday night. The incident occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on the 40th block of Burnside Avenue, a quiet residential street with a 25 mph speed limit.

Police say the black SUV that hit the girls did not stop and fled the scene. Initial responders arrived about two minutes after the 911 call was placed. The two teenage victims were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to their injuries. Their names have not yet been released.

Investigators spent hours collecting and processing evidence throughout the neighborhood on Monday evening. They were able to locate the driver of the SUV and take that individual into custody. As of now, no charges have been announced.

Cranford is situated in Union County, New Jersey, approximately 10 miles southwest of Newark. The Union County prosecutor’s office is leading the ongoing investigation. More updates will follow as this story develops.
