Two Teens Arrested for Vandalism at Santa Rosa Church

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Two teenagers, ages 14 and 15, have been arrested for allegedly vandalizing Santa Rosa Bible Church on Saturday, police reported Monday.
The cousins, whose identities are being withheld due to their age, are suspected of breaking into the church located at 4575 Badger Road through an unsecured door. Once inside, they reportedly caused extensive damage by throwing furniture around and vandalizing the restrooms.
The incident was reported to police early Sunday morning by church staff around 8:15 a.m. Surveillance footage from the church helped identify the suspects.
According to Sgt. Patricia Seffens, there is no evidence to suggest that either teen had any connection to the church prior to the incident. One suspect lives near the church, while the other was visiting from Danville, which is approximately 50 miles away.
Church officials reported that the vandalism included breaking a toilet and defecating and urinating on the floors. They also caused damage to an outdoor children’s play structure.
The younger suspect was arrested just after 10 a.m. on Sunday, while the 15-year-old was turned over to police by his parents on Monday morning.
In a news release, police encouraged local youths to respect community properties saying, “You have the power to make better choices. Be the kind of person who lifts up your community — not one who tears it down.” The church was closed for the day, and officials were unable to comment on the vandalism incident.
