UAB Men’s Basketball Faces Southern Illinois at Jacksonville Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The UAB men’s basketball team will compete in the Jacksonville Classic on Monday, November 24, against Southern Illinois at 12:30 p.m. CST. The Blazers, currently with a record of 4-2, look to build momentum after winning their last three games.

UAB will face Southern Illinois (2-2) in the first of two scheduled games. The Blazers will also play UTEP at 3 p.m. CST on November 25. Both games will be broadcast on WJQX 100.5 FM with Michael Coulter providing commentary.

In their last outing, UAB defeated South Alabama 80-72, showcasing a strong team effort where five players scored in double figures. Chance Westry led the scoring with 24 points.

Southern Illinois comes into the matchup after securing a convincing 79-59 victory over Delaware. The Salukis displayed a balanced offense and strong defense, forcing 19 turnovers and scoring 24 points off those turnovers. The team’s head coach praised their defensive performance, noting, “We need to keep pressure on teams.”

The matchup is significant as both teams aim to establish their dominance early in the season. UAB’s Chance Westry averages 19.2 points per game, while Southern Illinois counters with Alex Kazanecki, who led his team with 17 points against Delaware. The teams are looking to prepare for upcoming conference play.

Following the Jacksonville Classic, UAB will head to Memphis for another challenge on November 26.
