Uconn Star Competes For France In Olympics

In a thrilling gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the U.S. women’s basketball team is facing off against the host nation, France. The stakes are high, and one of France’s standout players is a familiar name: Williams.

Williams, who was the No. 4 overall pick out of UConn in 2018, is making a huge impact for France this summer. She originally played for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA but decided to take her talents overseas full-time after the 2022 season.

What makes Williams’ situation unique is her eligibility to play for France. Her mother, Therese, hails from France, allowing her to represent the country in the Olympics. Interestingly, Williams is fluent in French, despite her American upbringing.

Before this, she also competed in the Tokyo Olympics where she helped her team secure a bronze medal. The 5-foot-11 forward has shown her skills on the international stage and continues to be one of the best players for her team.

During her college years at UConn, Williams was a first-team All-America selection in 2017 and played an essential role in leading her team to the Final Four. Notably, that season, she was teammates with Napheesa Collier, who is currently on Team USA’s Olympic roster.
