Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Aims to End Russia-Ukraine War Through Diplomacy in 2025
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed his determination to end the war with Russia through diplomatic means by 2025. In a recent interview with Ukrainian radio, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of concluding the conflict diplomatically, especially as the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion approaches in February 2025.
The statement comes amid preparations for the potential return of Donald Trump to the White House, which has introduced uncertainty into the conflict’s future. Trump has been critical of U.S. military aid to Ukraine and has promised to cut a quick deal to end the war. Zelenskyy believes that the policies of the incoming Trump administration could lead to a sooner resolution of the conflict.
Despite the lack of meaningful talks between Russia and Ukraine, Zelenskyy remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has set conditions for talks, including the surrender of Ukrainian territory occupied by Moscow, which Zelenskyy has rejected.
The situation has been further complicated by a recent phone call between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Putin, which Ukraine viewed as an “attempt at appeasement.” Scholz had condemned Russia’s aggression and urged Putin to withdraw troops, but Ukraine remains skeptical about the effectiveness of such diplomatic efforts.
The G7 nations have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, stating that Russia remains the sole obstacle to a just peace and pledging to continue sanctions against Moscow. Zelenskyy has also highlighted the heavy losses suffered by Russian forces and the slowing down of their advances in some areas.
