Lata Mangeshkar And Raj Singh

Lata Mangeshkar, known as the ‘Nightingale of India,’ has left an indelible mark on the hearts of music lovers around the world. Even after her passing, her melodies continue to be a source of comfort and joy. However, one question has consistently troubled her fans: why did she never marry? This article explores the reasons behind this unanswered question.

It is known that Lata Mangeshkar, during her illustrious career spanning over 70 years, fell in love. Unfortunately, the circumstances were such that her love story never reached its fulfillment. Her prospective groom was Raj Singh, a prominent cricketer and former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Their love story was widely spoken about, so much so that their relationship almost led to marriage.

Raj Singh reportedly adored Lata’s musical talents, just as Lata admired his cricketing prowess. The affection between them was apparent, with Raj Singh affectionately calling her ‘Mithu.’ However, when they sought to marry, Raj Singh’s father, Maharawal Lakshman Singh, rejected the proposal as Lata did not belong to a royal family, thus putting an end to their marital aspirations.

The unresolved romance did not affect their friendship; both Lata and Raj Singh remained unmarried for their entire lives. Another significant reason attributed to Lata’s decision to stay single was the heavy responsibility she bore from a young age. After the passing of her father, she became the primary breadwinner for her family, putting familial duties above her personal desires. As the eldest among her siblings, she took care of the family until her last breath.
