Upcoming Traffic Disruptions Due to University of Missouri Homecoming
The University of Missouri is gearing up for its homecoming celebrations this weekend, which are expected to bring significant disruptions to traffic and public transportation in the Columbia area. The events will take place on both Friday and Saturday, affecting several key routes.
On Friday night, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., streets around the Greektown area will be closed for a pedestrian-only decoration viewing event. The specific streets that will be closed have not been detailed, but participants and residents should plan accordingly.
The homecoming parade is scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. on Saturday, starting at the intersection of Tiger Avenue and Rollins Street. The parade will proceed east on Rollins Street, then head north on Hitt Street, before turning west on University Avenue. It will continue north on South Ninth Street, go west on East Broadway, and conclude with a southward turn onto Cherry Street. Motorists are advised to expect delays along the parade route and to remain vigilant for pedestrians and road closures.
Go COMO, Columbia’s public transit service, will also experience changes on Saturday due to the events. The fixed-route bus and paratransit services will begin operating at noon. Nonetheless, transportation will be available from downtown Columbia to the roundabout at the intersection of Tiger Avenue and Hospital Drive between 8:30 and 10:45 a.m., with return trips scheduled to restart following the conclusion of the third quarter of the Missouri Tigers‘ football game.
The Missouri Tigers are set to play against the Auburn Tigers at Faurot Field, with the game kicking off at 11 a.m. The football match is anticipated to draw large crowds, further contributing to the congestion in and around the area.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time and to keep informed about any additional updates from local authorities regarding potential traffic impediments.
