Uss Beloit Commissioning Ceremony Milwaukee

The USS Beloit (LCS 29), a Littoral Combat Ship, was commissioned in a ceremony held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 23, 2024. This significant event marks the official entry of the USS Beloit into active service with the U.S. Navy.

The USS Beloit is notable for its advanced capabilities and design. It is nearly 400 feet long and can achieve speeds of over 40 knots, or 46 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest ships in the Navy’s fleet. The ship is part of the Littoral Combat Ship class, which is optimized for operations in shallow waters and is known for its speed and agility.

In the lead-up to the commissioning ceremony, various preparations were underway. The crew of the USS Beloit practiced extensively for the event, and local law enforcement, including the Milwaukee Police Department, were involved in securing the area around the ship. Additionally, a junior reserve officer training corps group had the opportunity to tour the ship while it was docked in Milwaukee.

The commissioning ceremony also holds historical significance as it will be sponsored by the first African-American woman to achieve the rank of major general. This milestone underscores the Navy’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
