Rohnert Park Power Outage Truck Crash

A vehicle crashed into a power pole in Rohnert Park, California, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, knocking out power to 5,691 customers, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E). The outage affected areas spanning from Sonoma State University’s campus in Rohnert Park to Rainsville Road near Petaluma.

The crash occurred at 12:46 p.m. when a truck veered off Stony Point Road near West Railroad Avenue, striking a power pole. California Highway Patrol Officer David deRutte confirmed that the driver, the sole occupant, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Investigators ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.

PG&E spokesperson Edgar Hopida stated that repair crews worked diligently to restore power, initially estimating full restoration by 4 p.m. By 6:30 p.m., power had been restored to all but 15 customers in Cotati, with the remaining outages expected to be resolved by 4 a.m. Monday. “Our team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on,” PG&E said in a statement.

The outage likely impacted tens of thousands of people, as a single PG&E customer can represent a household or business with multiple individuals. The incident disrupted daily activities and businesses in the affected areas, including parts of downtown Rohnert Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

PG&E’s outage map provided real-time updates as crews worked to repair the damaged infrastructure. The utility company emphasized its commitment to restoring power safely and efficiently while addressing the challenges posed by the crash.
