Drake Hogestyn, renowned for his portrayal of John Black on the iconic soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” has died at the age of 70. The actor’s family confirmed his passing, attributing it to pancreatic cancer, through a heartfelt statement released on the show’s official Instagram account.

The statement read, “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn. He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor. He loved performing for the ‘Days’ audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business. We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives.”

Hogestyn first graced the screens as John Black on January 24, 1986, captivating audiences with his portrayal of the mysterious and heroic character. Over the years, he became a staple on the NBC soap opera, later airing on Peacock, appearing in more than 4,200 episodes. His on-screen romance with Deidre Hall, who played Marlena Evans, remains one of daytime television’s most celebrated relationships.

Outside of his enduring role on “Days of Our Lives,” Hogestyn’s acting ventures included performances in the musical CBS series “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” and several TV movies from the 1980s and ’90s, such as “Generation,” “Beverly Hills Cowgirl Blues,” “One Stormy Night,” and “Night Sins.”

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fans alike. Kassie DePaiva, who portrayed Eve on “Days of Our Lives,” expressed her condolences on social media, stating, “I’m so saddened by this news. One of the kindest people I have ever worked with. What an amazing life he lived. He will be missed. He made the world a better place.”
