Asrani Bollywood Actor Death

Mumbai, India – Govardhan Asrani, a beloved veteran Bollywood actor and director, died on October 20, 2025, at the age of 84. His nephew, Ashok Asrani, confirmed the news of his passing.

Asrani’s last rites were performed later that day at Santacruz Crematorium in Mumbai. He had been suffering from a prolonged illness and was hospitalized at Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu for four days prior to his death.

According to his personal assistant, Babubhai, Asrani passed away around 3:30 PM due to fluid accumulation in his lungs. The family chose to conduct the funeral swiftly, as Asrani had requested to keep his death from becoming a public spectacle.

“He wanted to go in peace and had asked his wife, Manju, not to make his death an event,” Babubhai said. A prayer meeting is expected to be held soon, and the family plans to release a statement in the coming days.

Asrani was known for his versatile acting skills spanning over five decades and more than 350 films. He became a key figure in Hindi cinema, often recognized for his comedic roles in classics from the 1970s such as ‘Koshish’, ‘Bawarchi’, and ‘Chupke Chupke’. His portrayal of the eccentric jail warden in the 1975 film ‘Rafoo Chakkar’ is often cited as one of his most memorable performances.

Beyond acting, Asrani was also a director, having helmed films like ‘Chala Murari Hero Banne’ and ‘Salaam Memsaab’. His contributions to Gujarati cinema further showcased his dedication to the craft.

His death has left a significant void in the film industry, as fans and colleagues mourn the loss of a legendary figure in Indian cinema.
