MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison is set to miss the first three games of the 2025 regular season due to a suspension for violating NFL substance abuse policies. Addison is currently on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

The suspension stems from a DUI charge he received in July 2024, when police found him asleep in his vehicle near Los Angeles International Airport. During that incident, authorities accused him of driving at speeds up to 140 miles per hour. Addison later pleaded down his DUI charge to a lesser offense of “wet reckless.” Despite this, the NFL opted to impose discipline standard for such cases.

“Everything is out of my control right now,” Addison said in his first public comments after the arrest. “Whatever the league’s got for me, I’ll be prepared with whatever decision they make.”

Addison expressed his eagerness to return, captioning a video on his Instagram on August 30 with, “I’ll be back soon.” He will miss critical matchups, including the season opener on “Monday Night Football” against the Chicago Bears, along with games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers.

In 2024, Addison played a vital role in leading the Vikings to a 14-game season, achieving over 60 receptions, 800 yards, and at least nine touchdowns in both of his first two seasons. His presence will be missed as the Vikings navigate the early weeks of the season.

Financially, Addison’s suspension will cost him significantly. Reports indicate that he stands to forfeit $88,000 per game, totaling more than $264,000. This could also impact the full guarantee on his remaining two-year, $4.6 million contract.

The Vikings have had to address other injuries among their wide receiver corps as they prepare for the upcoming season. A key player had surgery on his hand, with expectations for his return by Week 1. The team also recently traded for additional support at the wide receiver position to manage injuries and Addison’s absence.
