Virginia Cavaliers Football Game Emotional Tribute

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – The Virginia Cavaliers triumphed over the William & Mary Tribe with a decisive score of 55-16 on Saturday at Scott Stadium, marking their second win of the season. The game took place during a heartfelt event dubbed UVA Strong Day, honoring the memories of Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D’Sean Perry, who tragically lost their lives in November 2022.

Junior wide receiver Suderian Harrison, wearing Davis’s former jersey number, ran onto the field with the UVA strong flag. He took a moment to kneel in prayer, embodying the day’s spirit of remembrance and resilience. Harrison contributed significantly to the game, achieving a 97-yard touchdown run early in the second half, breaking a long-standing school record previously held by Mikell Simpson.

Harrison Waylee was another standout player, rushing for 151 yards on just ten attempts, scoring three touchdowns throughout the game. Head coach Tony Elliott acknowledged Waylee’s hard work during practice after he had been underutilized in the previous game against NC State.

Senior Xavier Brown also made headlines by scoring his first touchdown of the season early in the second quarter, contributing to a total of six rushing touchdowns for Virginia. Quarterback Chandler Morris showcased his skills by leading a five-play, 35-yard touchdown drive before being replaced midway through the second quarter.

The Cavaliers set a total offense record during the game, achieving 700 yards, the most since 2022. This offensive explosion was complemented by a strong defensive performance that limited William & Mary to just 59 rushing yards.

The day was not just about football for the Cavaliers; it was a heartfelt tribute reminding everyone of the profound impact of the community’s losses. As Elliott noted, the team honored the legacy of the fallen players through their play.

Looking ahead, the Cavaliers will face Stanford next, bringing with them momentum from this significant victory.
