PERTH, Australia — Virginia Giuffre, a prominent figure in the fight against sexual abuse, died by suicide on April 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and pain. The announcement of her death shocked both the public and her family.

Giuffre, 41, had struggled with various traumatic experiences throughout her life, including allegations of abuse by high-profile figures like Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. According to her family, the emotional toll of these experiences was compounded by a family restraining order that prevented her from seeing her three children.

Her brother, Sky Roberts, spoke out about the profound impact of her separation from her children, stating, “It’s the worst pain in the world to not have access to your children. All the physical pain will never amount to the pain of being separated from your children in that way.” Giuffre’s sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, echoed this sentiment, explaining that the emotional burden on Giuffre was immense.

On February 2, Robert Giuffre had filed a restraining order claiming that Virginia had violated the terms, which she denied. Family members reported that the stress from these ongoing legal issues and her estranged husband’s accusations only heightened her distress.

Before her death, Giuffre had been reportedly living with a history of physical and emotional abuse from her husband. Amanda Roberts noted that during a birthday celebration for one of their children in January, Virginia sustained serious injuries requiring hospitalization.

In early April, Virginia posted on social media, revealing her health struggles stemming from kidney failure after a car crash that left her near death. On this issue, she stated, “I was able to fight back against Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein who abused and trafficked me. But I was unable to escape the domestic violence in my marriage until recently. After my husband’s latest physical assault, I can no longer stay silent.”

In the days leading up to her tragic death, Virginia’s family expressed their concerns, stating they were still processing her passing. “Her kids are the most important thing in her life,” Sky Roberts remarked, reflecting on how much Giuffre loved her children.

Virginia Giuffre gained public attention in 2010 when she alleged that she was a victim of Epstein’s trafficking scheme. Her fight for justice made her a prominent advocate for sexual abuse survivors and highlighted systemic issues within legal frameworks regarding domestic violence and child custody.

As the family mourns, Amanda Roberts emphasized their commitment to continuing Giuffre’s legacy through their work with the support organization she founded for survivors of sexual assault. “We’re going to do everything in our power to continue her legacy and advocate for survivors all over the world,” she said.
