Virginia Tech Prepares for Showdown Against No. 16 Louisville
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech football is set to host No. 16 Louisville on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. ET at Lane Stadium. Fresh off a dramatic double-overtime victory over California, the Hokies have an ACC record of 2-2 and are aiming to build on their recent success against a formidable Cardinals team boasting a 6-1 record and sitting fourth in the conference.
Fans looking to follow the game can catch it on The CW, with Thom Brennaman calling the play-by-play, Will Blackmon providing analysis, and Wes Bryant reporting from the sidelines. For those preferring radio coverage, the game will air on more than 40 stations statewide, including 105.3 FM in Blacksburg, with Bill Roth, Mike Burnop, and Zach Mackey covering the action.
The Hokies will seek to avoid falling further behind in their quest for bowl eligibility. After last week’s win, they need three more victories from their remaining four matches to qualify for postseason play. A loss to Louisville would eliminate their chances of contending for the ACC Championship, as no team has ever reached the title game with three losses.
Virginia Tech is currently on a six-game losing streak against ranked ACC opponents, with their last victory over a top-25 team coming in 2021 against then-No. 10 North Carolina. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are in a tight race against Georgia Tech, Miami, and Virginia for the ACC championship game, with their only loss this season occurring in overtime against Virginia.
The matchup at Lane Stadium marks the tenth meeting between these two teams, with Virginia Tech winning six of the previous nine encounters. The Hokies are confident as they maintain a perfect home record against Louisville, winning all three previous games in Blacksburg.
Both teams are coming off impressive games, as Louisville beat Boston College 38-24, driven by standout performances from their players. Hokies running back Marcellous Hawkins shone in last week’s game, rushing for a career-high 167 yards against Cal, while Louisville’s Isaac Brown is also poised to make waves, having rushed for 205 yards in his last outing.
Kickoff is now just hours away, and fans are eager to see if Virginia Tech can capitalize on their momentum and secure a crucial home victory against Louisville.
