Where to Vote in Indiana on Election Day 2024: A Comprehensive Guide
On Election Day, November 5, 2024, voters in Indiana have several options and resources to ensure they can cast their ballots efficiently. Here’s what you need to know:
In Indiana, polls are open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time. If you are in line at 6:00 PM, you will still be allowed to vote.
Indiana law allows voters to cast their ballots at any voting center within their county, rather than being restricted to a specific precinct polling place. For example, in Marion County, there are 186 vote centers where registered voters can cast their ballots.
To find your polling place, you can visit www.IndianaVoters.com and click on “Find My Polling Place.” This website will help you locate the nearest voting center based on your registration.
Every voter must present a government-issued photo ID before casting a ballot. Acceptable IDs include an Indiana driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card, military ID, or U.S. Passport. The ID must display your photo, name (which must conform to your voter registration record), and an expiration date that is current or has expired after the last General Election (November 8, 2022).
If you do not have a photo ID, you can obtain a free state-issued ID card from any Indiana BMV branch. BMV branches will be open on Monday until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Alternatively, you can cast a provisional ballot and present your ID to the county election board by noon 13 days after Election Day for your ballot to be counted.
Indiana’s electioneering law prohibits voters, poll workers, and poll watchers from wearing clothing or items that promote a candidate, party, or preference on a ballot question. If you have a disability or need assistance voting, a poll worker or a person of your choice (excluding your employer or union representative) can help you.
If you encounter any issues at the polls, you can report them by calling 1-866-IN-1-VOTE (1-866-461-8683) or emailing [email protected].
