Walker Buehler Nlds Philadelphia Phillies

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Phillies are set to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS starting Saturday, with former Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler now pitching for the Phillies. Manager Rob Thomson shared insights on Buehler’s transition and his contributions to the team.

“I think he’s given some information to our pitching coaches,” Thomson said. “He’s a winner. It’s like having [Zach Wheeler] around. He has that aura about him. We’re going to use him out of the pen in this series, whether it’s for length or for one inning, that’s to be seen.”

Walker Buehler’s journey has been tumultuous. After leading the Dodgers to the 2024 World Series victory, he signed a one-year, $21.05 million deal with the Boston Red Sox. However, he struggled with a 5.45 ERA in 23 appearances before being released. He joined the Phillies on a minor league deal and has made an impressive comeback, posting a 0.66 ERA in 13.2 innings over three games with Philadelphia.

The Phillies rely on Buehler as they face a significant challenge without three-time All-Star Zack Wheeler, who was placed on the injured list in August with a blood clot. Before his injury, Wheeler’s performance was stellar, with a 2.71 ERA in 24 starts.

“We’re going to miss him badly this postseason,” Thomson stated. “Walker provides us with depth and experience that we need.”

The NLDS matchup marks a key moment for Buehler, who will face his former team in a critical playoff series. The Dodgers, known for their massive $350 million payroll, are aiming to maintain their dominance as they face the $290 million Phillies, who have become formidable opponents in recent seasons.

Buehler’s transition from starting pitcher to a role in the bullpen adds another layer of intrigue. Despite having been a two-time All-Star, he embraces his new responsibilities as he gears up for the high-stakes games ahead.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Buehler said. “Playing against the Dodgers feels surreal, but I’m here to help my team succeed.”

With both teams boasting star-studded lineups, fans can expect an exciting series filled with intense competition and high performance on the field.
