Us Embassy India Student Visa Warning

New Delhi, India – The United States government has issued a warning to Indian and foreign students on student visas regarding possible revocation of their visas if they skip classes or drop out of their courses. The announcement was made by the U.S. Embassy in India on May 27, 2025.

The U.S. Embassy emphasized the importance of maintaining student status. “If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas,” the embassy stated on its X account.

This warning follows a series of deportation measures undertaken earlier in the year, as more than 4,700 international students reportedly had their study permissions revoked this spring. These actions appear to be part of a wider crackdown on illegal immigration under the current administration.

Additionally, students on Optional Practical Training (OPT) visas were reminded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that failing to report employment within 90 days could lead to their legal status being canceled in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

The U.S. Embassy also reminded all visa holders that overstaying their authorized period could lead to deportation and a permanent ban from entering the U.S. in the future. “If you remain in the United States beyond your authorized period of stay, you could be deported,” the embassy warned.

As reported by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, 682 Indian nationals have been deported from the U.S. since January 2025, the majority of whom were reportedly in the country illegally.
