Warzone Season 3 Patch Notes Reveal Nostalgic Changes as Verdansk Returns

LOS ANGELES, April 1, 2025 — As the highly anticipated launch of Season 3 approaches, Activision has released detailed patch notes for the upcoming update to Call of Duty: Warzone, which is set to reintroduce the iconic Verdansk map on April 3. Players can expect a plethora of new adjustments and features aimed at enhancing their gaming experience.
Season 3 kicks off on Thursday, April 3, at 9:00 AM PT (5:00 PM UTC), following a 24-hour maintenance period during which players will not be able to access the game. Preloading the update is expected to be available just hours before the official launch.
Among the significant updates, the patch notes highlight new console cross-play settings that provide users with more control over matchmaking options. Activision has stated that this change allows console players to create a tailored gaming experience, although it may negatively affect the average matchmaking queue times.
“We are giving console players more granular options by separating the Multiplayer Ranked Play and Call of Duty: Warzone Ranked Play settings,” the patch notes detail. Each of these settings will allow players to restrict matchmaking to their current gaming platform only.
Weapon balance changes are also a central focus of the update. Shotguns are set to receive a blanket buff, offering enhanced damage, range, and rate of fire, making them formidable options in combat. Signature weapons like the Kilo 141 assault rifle and the HDR sniper rifle are returning, alongside new content for Multiplayer and Zombies.
“The transition to Season 3 represents our commitment to reinvigorating the game and aligning it with the community’s love for the original Verdansk experience,” said an Activision spokesperson.
The return of Verdansk is more than just an aesthetic upgrade; it rolls back various gameplay elements to their original state, including changes to the Precision Airstrike, which no longer displays its path indicator on the mini-map, potentially increasing its unpredictability in matches. “We feel strongly that the removal will enhance surprise elements during gameplay,” the developers stated.
Additionally, adjustments to the supply run contracts and loot distribution reflect the original mechanics of the game. Players now have a simplified array of methods for retaining gameplay viability after death, aimed at creating a more engaging and strategic experience.
As for quality-of-life improvements, several UI updates will be implemented, including a revamped death recap feature allowing players to gain more insight into the circumstances surrounding their eliminations.
With the official launch of Season 3 just days away, Activision encourages players to stay engaged with all updates and news surrounding Call of Duty. By logging into Warzone from April 3 to 15, players can earn exclusive rewards, including the new Kali Sticks melee weapon and several unlocks for original Verdansk veterans.
