North Central Florida Weather Forecast

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — North Central Florida is enjoying clear skies and mild temperatures Thursday, March 6, but residents should prepare for a shift this weekend, including increased fire danger and the potential for storms. Meteorologists warn that cooler, drier air will mix with a developing storm system starting Saturday.

This Thursday, temperatures are expected to reach the mid-60s under sunny conditions, with a brisk northwest wind gusting up to 30 mph. The National Weather Service advises caution for outdoor activities due to elevated fire risks linked to low humidity levels. As a high-pressure system moves in from the west, wind speeds will decrease in the evening, and temperatures will drop to the upper 30s overnight.

Friday promises a warm-up as daytime highs climb into the mid-70s, accompanied by a slight increase in humidity. Temperatures will only fall into the mid to upper 40s Friday night, setting the stage for a more humid Saturday.

The next storm system is projected to arrive late Saturday, bringing a mix of clouds and sun with highs reaching the mid to upper 70s. Rain chances will rise Saturday night into Sunday as a cold front approaches, causing scattered showers and thunderstorms. “We are monitoring the system closely as it develops,” said meteorologist Alex Carter. “The potential for storms could peak overnight into Sunday, and we advise residents to stay tuned for updates.”

By Monday, the storm should have moved out, leading to improved weather conditions. However, following the storm, temperatures are expected to drop back to the upper 30s, with lower 60s during the day. The Weather Channel emphasizes the importance of maintaining awareness of fire risks throughout the weekend due to persistently dry conditions.

In addition to fire and storm concerns, pollen counts are on the rise this week, with estimates ranging from 8 to 10. This increase may aggravate allergy symptoms for many residents across the region.

The impact of the weekend’s weather will not only affect home activities but is also anticipated to influence local events like the Palmetto Bowl—baseball edition. Warm afternoons will give way to significant evening temperature drops, so attendees are advised to dress accordingly.

The public is encouraged to download the WCJB TV20 News and Weather apps for up-to-date alerts on the evolving forecast throughout the weekend. As always, individual actions should reflect local burn regulations and weather advisories. Preparedness can help reduce risks associated with outdoor activities and potential storms.
