Weather Forecast: Cold Thanksgiving Ahead Across the South
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Thanksgiving is shaping up to be a cold day as scattered showers move through the South. The best chance for rain will be this evening, especially south of Route 460, where light rain amounts are expected. Some areas may see over 0.10 inches of rain, particularly in the Southside.
Wednesday will bring a quick-moving front that will increase winds from the west. Gusts may exceed 30 mph during the afternoon. This wind is expected to usher in a cold, dry air mass just in time for Thanksgiving. Forecasts suggest that people should plan to wear sweaters or jackets as temperatures drop significantly.
On Thanksgiving Day, high temperatures will range from the 40s to the 50s, significantly cooler than usual. Morning runs on Thursday will require warmer clothing, as wind chill could make it feel 10 degrees colder.
In Las Vegas, the weather will also be affected as scattered showers are expected to persist through Friday. After receiving 0.55 inches of rain at Reid Airport earlier in the week, November 2025 has already become the seventh wettest on record for the city. The forecast for Wednesday indicates a high of 58 degrees with more sun peeking through clouds. Although another storm system is expected late Thursday into Friday, it should bring only sporadic showers.
Meanwhile, Atlanta is facing its own weather challenges. Scattered showers with a few thunderstorms are expected this evening, continuing into the night. Light rain is predicted, totaling less than a quarter-inch in most areas. Low temperatures will hover around the 50s.
As the week progresses, Georgia can expect another system bringing heavier rainfall and possible thunderstorms early next week, coinciding with Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, while this rain is welcomed, it is unlikely to alleviate ongoing drought conditions.
