Weather Today May Impact Balloon Glow and Marathon Events

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Derby Festival is set to kick off this week, but changing weather patterns may disrupt planned festivities. The events scheduled from Thursday to Saturday include the Great Balloon Glow and the Great Balloon Race, alongside the miniMarathon.
Meteorologist Eric Zemaneck reported that the region is expected to experience some rainfall beginning Thursday afternoon. “We’re looking at a chance for scattered showers and storms, especially Friday evening, which could affect the Balloon Glow event,” he explained.
On Thursday, after a warm morning with temperatures reaching the low 80s, the forecast indicates possible precipitation later in the day. Expect temperatures to remain mild as evening events unfold, but showers could dampen the Balloon Glow festivities starting around 9 PM.
As the weekend approaches, organizers are cautiously optimistic. Background conditions suggest that Saturday morning may remain dry for the miniMarathon and Great Balloon Race. However, strong winds could present challenges for balloonists as they take to the sky.
<p“Fingers crossed that the rain stays away from our Balloon Glow event,” a festival spokesperson stated. “We want everyone to enjoy the vibrant displays and festive atmosphere.”
Despite the meteorological concerns, the overall mood remains hopeful for an enjoyable weekend filled with traditional Kentucky Derby celebrations.
