West End’s ‘Macbeth’ Starring Tennant and Jumbo to Hit Global Cinemas
The critically acclaimed West End production of “Macbeth,” starring David Tennant and Zawe Jumbo, is set for a cinema release across the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and other international territories. This adaptation, under the direction of Max Webster, is currently playing to sold-out audiences at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre.
Tennant and Jumbo portray Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, respectively, in this new rendition of Shakespeare’s classic tale of ambition and betrayal. An exclusive first clip from the filmed version, shot during the production’s run at the Donmar Warehouse last year, showcases Tennant and Jumbo performing Act 1, Scene 7, where they plot the murder of King Duncan to seize the Scottish throne.
The adaptation will be available in cinemas worldwide starting February 5, 2025, through Trafalgar Releasing in partnership with Donmar Warehouse. Tickets will be available from October 16. “It’s great to be working with the Donmar Warehouse once again to bring their sold-out production of ‘Macbeth’ to cinema audiences both across the U.K. and globally,” Trafalgar Releasing CEO Marc Allenby stated.
The Donmar Warehouse’s artistic director, Tim Sheader, expressed, “We are delighted that our innovative production of ‘Macbeth’ will continue to reach new audiences beyond the original run.” The production initially gained acclaim for its performances and unique auditory experience, providing audience members with headphones to capture the nuances of the play’s audio effects.
The cast includes Rob Alexander-Adams, Moyo Akandé, Annie Grace, Jasmin Hinds, Martyn Hodge, Brian James O’Sullivan, Casper Knopf, Gemma Laurie, Cal MacAninch, Kathleen MacInnes, Alasdair Macrae, Niall MacGregor, Rona Morison, Noof Ousellam, Raffi Phillips, Jatinder Singh Randhawa, Theo Wake, Ros Watt, and Benny Young. The production team features design by Rosanna Vize, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Christopher Shutt, movement by Shelley Maxwell, and musical direction by Alasdair Macrae.
The live performances are scheduled to continue at the Harold Pinter Theatre until December 14, providing theatre-goers with the chance to experience the celebrated production in person before its cinematic release.
