White House Press Secretary Balances Work and Motherhood in Viral Moment

Washington, D.C. — White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is gaining attention for her remarkable ability to balance motherhood and her demanding role in the administration. A photo of her multitasking has gone viral, capturing a moment where she fed her nine-month-old son, Nicholas Robert Riccio, nicknamed ‘Niko,’ while typing at her desk.
The photo, shared by Margo Martin, a special assistant to the president, shows Leavitt gracefully managing both her professional duties and her responsibilities as a new mother. Since its posting, the image has garnered more than 9 million views on X (formerly Twitter), showcasing the admiration for her juggling act.
Leavitt, who is 27, is the youngest press secretary in U.S. history. She started her career as an intern during Donald Trump‘s first term and rose to her current position as press secretary just before this year’s Mother’s Day. She and her husband, Nicholas Riccio, were married just days before the inauguration, having welcomed their son last July.
In earlier interviews, Leavitt expressed the challenges of returning to work after Niko’s birth, especially following an assassination attempt on President Trump that required her to cut short her maternity leave. ‘I looked at my husband and said, “Looks like I’m going back to work,”‘ she recounted.
Social media reactions to the photo were mixed, with many applauding her efforts while others criticized the work-life balance she embodies. One user wrote, “It’s incredible what inner strength women possess,” while others expressed concern over the normalization of working mothers in high-pressure roles.
Leavitt has stated her top priority remains being a mother, declaring, ‘I’m very blessed to have this job, but my favorite job of all, and my top priority, is to be the best mom I can be.’
As she navigates the complexities of her job and family life, Leavitt also plans to take her son on future travels, including a trip to the Middle East next week, emphasizing the importance of being present for both her son and her duties as a press secretary.
