WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Wichita Police Department announced Tuesday that a vehicle previously sought in connection to an attempted abduction was not involved in the incident. The update came following additional investigation and the confirmation of the car’s owner.
On Monday, February 10, 2025, at approximately 3:40 PM, a 14-year-old girl reported a frightening encounter as she walked home near the 2500 block of West Esthner Avenue. Police stated that a maroon sedan pulled up beside her, and a passenger inside the car made inappropriate comments while trying to coerce her into the vehicle.
According to the girl’s mother, the situation escalated when the passenger exited the car and chased her daughter, ultimately grabbing her backpack and pulling it off her. “She said she ran that fast in her life, she was so scared,” the mother conveyed during an interview with 12 News.
Authorities reported that a nearby resident intervened, helping the girl escape by retrieving her backpack and shoes. The police later posted a photograph of the suspected vehicle on social media to seek public assistance, but subsequent investigations cleared it of involvement.
“Investigators were able to locate the vehicle and its owner, and after further investigation, they were able to rule out the vehicle’s involvement,” Lt. Aaron Moses stated.
The police described the suspect as a male with a medium complexion and muscular build, approximately 6 feet tall, featuring dark curly hair and a short black beard. They encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
“We encourage our community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity,” the Wichita Police Department urged.
