Widespread School Closures and Delays in Denver Metro Area Due to Snow
Severe snow conditions in the Denver metro area have led to numerous school closures and delayed openings over the past two days. On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, several school districts announced full closures due to heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions. Districts such as Bennett School District, Byers School District, and Elbert School District canceled classes for the day.
Other schools, including Regis Jesuit High School, St. Mary of Littleton Parish and School, and Yuma School District, also closed their doors. In addition to full closures, many schools and institutions operated on delayed schedules. For example, Arapahoe Community College in Castle Rock delayed its opening until 10 a.m., while Douglas County School District and Cherry Creek School District implemented 90-minute delays.
On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Douglas County School District canceled classes again due to snow in the forecast and worse-than-anticipated road conditions. The district decided to give students and teachers a day off out of an abundance of caution as snow was expected to continue throughout the day.
The southern metro areas, including Highlands Ranch, Parker, and Castle Rock, were also expected to see additional snowfall, contributing to the ongoing disruptions. Residents are advised to stay updated on local news and school websites for real-time information on closures and delays as the weather continues to impact the area.
