Wildfire Forces Evacuations in Carolina Forest Area of Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – A raging wildfire has prompted urgent evacuations in the Carolina Forest area, leading authorities to clear residents from the Walkers Woods and Avalon neighborhoods. The Horry County Fire Rescue announced the mandatory evacuations on Saturday as flames threaten homes.

Chief Meteorologist Jamie Arnold reported that residents began evacuating on foot and in vehicles this afternoon. Local officials have established the Carolina Forest Recreation Center as a safe location for evacuees seeking shelter.

Horry County Fire Rescue advised all non-evacuated residents to stay clear of these areas and allow first responders access to the impacted neighborhoods. Authorities are working diligently to combat the wildfire and gather more information.

As of this afternoon, the fire has scorched approximately 200 acres of land, aggravating an already tense wildfire season characterized by gusty winds and low humidity. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch, emphasizing the dangerous conditions expected throughout the day.
