Williams Lake Declares Local State of Emergency Amid Wildfire Threat

WILLIAMS LAKE, BC – A wildfire in the verdant river valley of Williams Lake has prompted local authorities to declare a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) on the evening of July 21, 2024. The blazes ignited earlier that day, quickly escalating in intensity and putting nearby areas on high alert.

The alert area has since expanded, now encompassing the west side of Williams Lake, particularly affecting residents living on Country Club Boulevard, Fairview Drive, around Tolko’s Lakeview Mill, Woodland Drive, and Westridge Drive.

The local government is collaborating with the BC Wildfire Service, which has mobilized air support alongside ground crews. Firefighters responded with air tankers and helicopters striving to contain the fire as it began to diminish in light near dusk.
