Wind Warning Issued for Southern Saskatchewan as Alberta Clipper Approaches

Saskatchewan Wind Storm

The Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a wind warning for parts of southern Saskatchewan, forecasting gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour (km/h) in some regions this Saturday. The warning affects areas including Regina, Moose Jaw, and several rural municipalities such as Hillsborough, Baildon, Abernethy, Antler, Mount Pleasant, and Argyle.

The rapid weather change is attributed to an incoming Alberta clipper system, which is known for its swift-moving pattern and potential to produce severe weather conditions. According to the ECCC, this system will cause sustained winds ranging from 60 km/h to 70 km/h, with possible gusts reaching 90 km/h to 100 km/h during the afternoon hours.

Please note that the intensity of the winds is expected to subside later on Saturday night. Residents are warned to take precautions as the high winds could result in damages to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows, and could also lead to power outages. Loose objects might be propelled by the wind, posing further hazards to both people and property.

Environment Canada’s statement included cautionary advice about potential utility disruptions and fallen tree branches impacting infrastructure. The extent of the areas under warning includes approximately 110 communities across central and southeast Saskatchewan.
