Winter Storm Blankets Tri-State Area with Up to 8 Inches of Snow
NEW YORK (WABC) — A winter storm swept through the Tri-State area on Sunday, January 19, 2025, leaving behind snowfall totals ranging from 1 inch to over 8 inches in some regions. The National Weather Service reported the highest accumulation in Highland Mills, New York, with 8.1 inches, while Central Park in Manhattan recorded 1.6 inches.
The storm impacted New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, with significant snowfall in suburban and rural areas. Ringwood, New Jersey, saw 6.3 inches, while Franklin Lakes in Bergen County reported 5.9 inches. In Connecticut, New Fairfield received 5.2 inches, and North Haven recorded 4 inches.
“The snowfall varied widely across the region due to localized weather patterns,” said meteorologist Brittany Bell. “While urban areas like Manhattan saw lighter accumulations, higher elevations and northern suburbs experienced heavier snow.”
In Pennsylvania, the storm brought up to 7.3 inches in Wernersville, while Philadelphia-Center City recorded 2.3 inches. New Jersey’s Cherry Hill saw 3 inches, and Delaware‘s Hockessin reported 2.4 inches.
Residents across the region faced hazardous travel conditions, with many roads requiring plowing and salting. Local authorities urged caution and advised limiting non-essential travel during the storm.
The National Weather Service continues to monitor the aftermath, with potential for icy conditions as temperatures drop overnight. For the latest updates, residents are encouraged to check official weather channels and local news outlets.
